The Mentawai Islands offer some of the best surf to be found anywhere in the world, with more perfect left and right handed waves in one region than anywhere on earth. The Mentawai group of Islands attracts swells all year round with the most consistent season generally being between March and November.
Waves can vary in size within the Mentawai Islands. Ranging anywhere from fun sized walls to awesome stand-up barrels. If you can hold your own on a wave, whether you’re natural or goofy, this place has the waves for you. Even today you still have the opportunity to surf uncrowded waves as this area keeps producing quality line ups which are scattered throughout a vast array of reefs, beaches, point breaks and secluded bays.
The Telos is more of an unknown and some of the glamour waves here have been kept deliberately quiet by those that have visited. But almost everyone returns from a surf trip here with big grins. Telos surf spots are relatively well guarded and many unknown to the greater majority. There are several top-quality breaks to suit all levels and Nomad Surf Charters is guaranteed to place you at the best wave on the day. The local game fishing is also virtually untouched. As many years in the region, Nomad’s crew still holds a few secrets close to their chest and we can’t wait to share them with you.
Banyak & Hinako Islands
Nomad can arrange North Sumatran surf charters for you and your group. Starting in either Padang or Sibolga, Nomad will set sail bound for the Banyak Islands where waves such as Treasure Island, Lolok Point and Joysticks exist. A little further North, 9kms off the coast of Nias is the acclaimed Hinako Islands home to waves such as Asu, Bawa and Afulu. Both of these regions catch the clean consistent swells of the Indian Ocean from early March to mid November. Many waves in both regions remain nameless and crowds are extremely thin. Due to its remoteness and distance from major airports please let us know well in advance if you want to venture to these parts of Sumatra.
